CAN-Exploratory study on OSH problems in performing arts (10.06.2009)

The Canadian Institut Robert Sauvé has conducted a research project on OSH for performing artists. The purpose of this exploratory study was to more effectively delineate OHS issues in the performing arts. It was developed and produced in collaboration with the members of a tripartite committeee, chaired by the CSST, and stakeholders from cultural enterprises. The study reveals the necessity of a systematic approach to OHS issues in this sector and presents a series of recommendations for research and intervention.

Belgium’s first disability case managers (30.04.2009)

On Wednesday 22 April 2009, a milestone was passed: diplomas were awarded to Belgium’s first disability case managers. The knowledge and skills of participants from various sectors (including HRM, occupational health and safety services, mutual health insurance schemes, rehabilitation centres, insurance companies, trade unions and centres for support in returning to work) were optimised during the disability case manager training programme, the main aim being to ensure better support for workers with long‐term health problems and/or functional restrictions during the process of reintegration and job retention.

UK – Report on helping people who are out of work because of ill-health to return to work (16.10.2008)

Employer engagement is a key area that must be addressed when helping long-term sick employees return to work, the Institute for Employment Studies (IES) has stated.

Research by the IES has found a number of key areas where there remains inadequate support for such individuals, with “key” areas to be addressed including the need for increased employer engagement and involvement of healthcare professionals.

EU-World Mental Health Day: SUPPORT Project Bulletin (14.10.2008)

An EU High-Level Conference "Together for Mental Health and Well-being", taking place on 13 June 2008 in Brussels, established the European Pact for Mental Health and Well-being.

The conference was hosted by European Commissioner for Health, Ms Androulla Vassiliou, in cooperation with her colleague Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, Mr Vladimír Špidla. It gathered high-level representatives from the European Parliament, the Council Presidency and Member State Governments. Organisations and leaders from relevant sectors such as health, education, employment, social affairs as well as from civil society were also participating.

FR-Retour progressif au travail – nouvelle étude à l’IRSST (27.06.2008)

Une nouvelle étude publiée par l’Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST) explore le concept de marge de manœuvre (MM) dans le contexte d’un programme de réadaptation au travail pour des personnes en absence prolongée. Les chercheurs ont défini la marge de manœuvre comme la possibilité ou la liberté dont dispose un travailleur pour élaborer différentes façons de travailler afin de rencontrer les exigences de production, et ce, sans effet défavorable sur sa santé. Ce concept n’a jamais été transposé lors d’un processus de retour progressif et supervisé au travail pour des personnes en absence prolongée. Cette étude exploratoire a tenté d’arrimer les différentes dimensions du concept de la MM à la reprise d’une activité de travail.

Les résultats de cette étude, bien qu’exploratoires, soutiennent que la présence de la MM semble liée à la reprise du travail pour des travailleurs présentant une absence reliée à un TMS et participant à un programme de réadaptation utilisant l’entraînement progressif en milieu naturel.

D’après les auteurs de l’étude, il apparaît certain que le modèle de l’activité au travail peut être transféré en y ajoutant certains indicateurs singuliers. De plus, la conception dynamique de la MM en lien avec le contexte réel de travail, telle que rapportée dans la présente étude, représente un premier jalon posé pour remplacer la vision transversale et linéaire de l’évaluation des capacités fonctionnelles.

L’adoption de ce modèle par les cliniciens en réadaptation favoriserait une approche plus systémique de l’évaluation de l’ensemble des indicateurs pertinents à la réalisation de l’activité de travail en santé et permettrait également l’appropriation d’un modèle personne- environnement. Indirectement, les résultats de cette étude montrent que l’identification d’outils ou de moyens au travail pendant un processus de réadaptation ne suffit pas pour s’assurer que les individus vont les utiliser.

 Cette étude renomme également l’importance des représentations des individus comme un élément central de l’action et donc une pierre angulaire de la MM. Bien qu’il s’agisse d’une étude exploratoire, il existe déjà des retombées directes de cette étude. Chez l’équipe de cliniciens ayant participé à l’étude, ce concept de marge de manœuvre apparaît prometteur et leur semble mieux accompagner leur représentation du retour progressif au travail que les outils actuellement à leur disposition. Par conséquent, ils ont intégré l’évaluation de ce concept à leur processus d’évaluation des travailleurs.
