Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS)/ Le Centre canadien d'hygiène et de sécurité au travail (CCHST)

Established in 1978 in Hamilton - Ontario, The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) promotes the total well-being - physical, psychosocial and mental health - of working Canadians by providing information, training, education, management systems and solutions that support health, safety and wellness programs. A not-for-profit federal department corporation, CCOHS is governed by a tripartite Council – representing government, employers and labour – to ensure a balanced, approach to workplace health and safety issues. It offers a range of workplace health and safety services to help the organizations raise awareness, assess risks, implement prevention programs, and improve health, safety and well-being.

Istituto Nazionale per l'Assicurazione contro gli Infotuni sul Lavoro (INAIL) - WORKERS COMPENSATION AUTHORITY

L’INAIL, Istituto Nazionale Assicurazione contro gli Infortuni sul Lavoro, persegue una pluralità di obiettivi: ridurre il fenomeno infortunistico; assicurare i lavoratori che svolgono attività a rischio; garantire il reinserimento nella vita lavorativa degli infortunati sul lavoro. L’assicurazione, obbligatoria per tutti i datori di lavoro che occupano lavoratori dipendenti e parasubordinati nelle attività che la legge individua come rischiose, tutela il lavoratore contro i danni derivanti da infortuni e malattie professionali causati dalla attività lavorativa. L’assicurazione esonera il datore di lavoro dalla responsabilità civile conseguente ai danni subiti dai propri dipendenti. La tutela nei confronti dei lavoratori, anche a seguito delle recenti innovazioni normative, ha assunto sempre più le caratteristiche di sistema integrato di tutela, che va dagli interventi di prevenzione nei luoghi di lavoro, alle prestazioni sanitarie ed economiche, alle cure, riabilitazione e reinserimento nella vita sociale e lavorativa nei confronti di coloro che hanno già subito danni fisici a seguito di infortunio o malattia professionale. Allo scopo di contribuire a ridurre il fenomeno infortunistico l’INAIL realizza inoltre importanti iniziative mirate al monitoraggio continuo dell’andamento dell’occupazione e degli infortuni, alla formazione e consulenza alle piccole e medie imprese in materia di prevenzione, al finanziamento imprese che investono in sicurezza.

INAIL - The Workers Compensation Authority - pursues several objectives: the reduction of accidents at work, the insurance of workers involved in risky activities; the re-integration in the labour market and in social life of work accident victims.
This type of insurance, compulsory for all employers hiring workers in activities which the law defines as risky, protects workers from any kind of damage resulting from work related accidents and occupational diseases freeing employers from any civil liability.

The safeguard of workers is now more than ever an integrated protection system-as a result also of recent innovative provisions of law-ranging from prevention on the workplace to health and economic benefits, medical treatment, rehabilitation and reintegration in the social and working life of victims of physical damage consequent to a work related accident or professional disease.

With a view to contributing to the reduction of accidents, INAIL has also implemented a number of important tools to continually monitor employment and accident trends, it provides small and medium size enterprises with training and advice in the field of prevention and funds companies that decide to invest in the improvement of safety.

Institute of Occupational Safety and Health - IOSH

IOSH, Europe's leading body for health and safety professionals, represents ten thousands of members. As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, the Institution regulates and steers the profession, maintaining standards and providing impartial, authoritative guidance on health and safety issues. The website provides safestartup.org: a tool for SMEs in the British Isles. There is an occupational health toolkit and plenty of forum threads to discuss practical OSH issues.

Magyar Munkavédelmi Fókuszpont (Focal Point - Hungary)

Üdvözöljük a Magyar Munkavédelmi Fókuszpont honlapján, ahol munkavédelmi információkat találhat és kapcsolatot teremthet azokkal a szervezetekkel, amelyek munkavédelmi ügyekkel foglalkoznak.

European Commission: Directorate General Employment and Social Affairs (DG Employment)

The Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities has the task of contributing to the development of a modern, innovative and sustainable European Social Model with more and better jobs in an inclusive society based on equal opportunities.

It plays a key role in promoting positive interaction between economic, social and employment policies, bringing in the main players who can help to achieve the EU strategic objective, viz. to make Europe the world most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy, capable of sustainable economic growth, with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion.

In other words, the Directorate-General's job is to play its part in addressing the major challenges and formulating concrete responses with a view to achieving this strategic objective, more especially as regards :

  • Employment thanks to the European Employment Strategy (application of the open method of co-ordination aimed at bringing national policies closer in this field) and the European Social Fund financial tool (EUR 9 billion per year managed in partnership with the Member States).
  • Structures in the world of work by approximating national legislation regulating the labour market, by developing social dialogue at European level, by modernising labour relations, and by making the EU workers more mobile.
  • Social exclusion and social protection by reinforcing the co-operation between Member States, drawing up legislation and running programmes to counter discrimination, promoting fundamental rights and by enhancing the integration of disabled people.
  • Equality between men and women by producing and overseeing legislation, running programmes designed to improve equal opportunities for women and men and ensuring that the gender issue is taken into account in all fields of Community action.

European Trade Union Institute - Research, Education, Health and Safety (ETUI-REHS)

The ETUC-REHS, formerly, the trade union technical bureau (TUTB), carries out a lot of work on a wide variety of issues. Training activities with AFETT/ETUCO The TUTB regularly organises training activities in collaboration with AFETT and ETUCO. The aim of these training sessions is to encourage co-operation between trade union experts and to act as a forum for practical trade union discussion. Calendar of training sessions. GOSH - Multi-Country Programme for Distance Education The programme offers on the one hand the opportunity for young people to spend a period in another country and to get involveGOSH is the European Studies Program pointed to Eastern Europe and financed by Phare which helps in Gearing up with the Occupational Safety and Health systems in the European Union. TUTB is involved in the definition of the "Course Curriculum" for a distance training package on the European Legislation concerning Occupational Safety and Health. The multi-country program for distance education on "the EU Framework Directive on Occupational Health and Safety and its consequences for Safety and Health in the workplace" have been established by the TNO, The Netherlands. Approximately 88 participants from ten applicant Eastern European countries are invited to participate: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. d in a local project as a volunteer. On the other hand, it allows a wide range of different organisations to work together and build European partnerships by exchanging volunteers. The Health and Safety Department provides resources of expertise to trade union members of the Advisory Committee on Safety, Hygiene and Health Protection at Work, which meets in Luxembourg, and the Bilbao-based European Agency for Safety and Health at Work.
It conducts research into such fields as risk assessment, prevention systems, musculo-skeletal disorders, gender dimensionand health at work, ergonomics, mental workload and occupational stress.

It runs networks of experts on technical standardisation (ergonomics, safety of machinery) and hazardous substances (classification, risk assessment, setting occupational exposure limits). The Health and Safety Department is an associate member of the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN).

L' Inspection du Travail et des Mines (ITM) représente le 'Point Focal National' dans le réseau d'information de l'Agence européenne pour la Santé et la Sécurité au Travail.

Le but du réseau d'information consiste à collectionner et à distribuer toutes les informations disponibles dans le domaine de la Santé et de la Sécurité au Travail à travers l'Europe pour promouvoir l'amélioration du millieu du travail. National Focal Point in Luxembourg is represented by the Labour and Mine Inspectorate disseminating good pratice from the filed of health and safety at work.

BAuA - Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin

Die Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin (BAuA) ist Forschungseinrichtung, Wissensdienstleister und Serviceeinrichtung für Wirtschaft, Politik, Sozialpartner und Bürgerinnen und Bürger. Auf ihrer Homepage stellt sie ausgewählte Handlungshilfen, Informationen für die Praxis und Technische Regeln zum Herunterladen zur Verfügung.

The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) is research facility and service provider for industry, government, social partners and the general public. On its website you can find guidelines, good practice information and technical rules on occupational safety and health for download.

Bürgerportal Arbeitsschutz NRW (OSH portal NRW)

Das Bürgerportal Arbeitsschutz NRW bündelt internetbasierte Arbeitsschutz-Dienstleistungen des Ministeriums für Arbeit, Gesundheit und Soziales des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (MWA) und der Staatlichen Arbeitsschutzverwaltung des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen. Es enthält sektorielle und thematische Schwerpunktinformationen.

The OSH portal of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia bundles OSH services and information of the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs and the administration for everybody. Information on various sectors and topics can be found.

IFA - Institut für Arbeitsschutz der Deutschen Gesetzlichen Unfallversicherung

Das IFA - Institut für Arbeitsschutz der Deutschen Gesetzlichen Unfallversicherung (ehemals BGIA) ist ein Forschungs- und Prüfinstitut der gesetzlichen Unfallversicherungsträger in Deutschland. Das IFA unterstützt die gesetzlichen Unfallversicherungsträger in Deutschland bei naturwissenschaftlich-technischen Fragestellungen im Arbeits- und Gesundheitsschutz durch Forschung, Entwicklung, Prüfung von Produkten und Stoffproben, Betriebliche Messungen und Beratungen, Mitwirkung in der Normung und Regelsetzung und Bereitstellung von Expertenwissen.

The IFA (formerly BGIA) is an institute for research and testing of the German Statutory Accident Insurance Bodies (BG/UK). It supports them as a institute for research and development for occupational safety with the focus on science and technology. IFA is also occupies on testing of products and material samples, workplace measurements and advice, advice for standardisation and regulation setting bodies, providing technical information and expertise.

Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung - DGUV

Der Verband "Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung" (DGUV) ist der Spitzenverband der gewerblichen Berufsgenossenschaften und der Unfallversicherungsträger der öffentlichen Hand. Er nimmt die gemeinsamen Interessen seiner Mitglieder wahr und fördert deren Aufgaben zum Wohl der Versicherten und der Unternehmen. Der Verband vertritt die gesetzliche Unfallversicherung gegenüber Politik, Bundes-, Landes-, europäischen und sonstigen nationalen und internationalen Institutionen sowie Sozialpartnern.

The DGUV (German Social Accident Insurance) is the umbrella association of the accident insurance institutions for the industrial and public sectors (the BGs and the public-sector accident insurers respectively). It assumes responsibility for the common interests of its member institutions and promotes their functions in the interests of both member companies and insured individuals. The DGUV represents the statutory accident insurance institutions in their dealings with policymakers, regional, national, European and international institutions, and employers' and employees' representative bodies.

INQA - Initiative Neue Qualität der Arbeit

INQA ist die deutsche Gemeinschaftsinitiative aus Bund, Ländern, Sozialpartnern, Sozialversicherungsträgern, Stiftungen und Unternehmen. Ihr Ziel ist es, gute Arbeitsbedingungen zu schaffen und dabei die Interessen der Beschäftigten und der Unternehmen miteinander zu verbinden. INQA regt die öffentliche Debatte an, organisiert Wissenstranfer zu relevanten Themen, unterstützt innovative Projekte und verbreitet Beispiele für Gute Praktische Lösungen.

Bundesministerium für Verkehr, Bau und Stadtentwicklung (BMVBS)

Temasida bygg och anläggning (Construction and Civil Engineering Work)

Byggbranschen är en av de mest skadedrabbade i Sverige. Antalet anmälda arbetsskador har dessutom ökat mellan 1997 och 2001, framför allt belastningsskador och fallolyckor. Sjukskrivningstiderna är långa.
Det systematiska arbetsmiljöarbetet har inte slagit igenom i branschen. Byggherrar och projektörer behöver bli bättre på att leva upp till sitt ansvar. Tillsynen behöver stärkas.
