In 2005, the social partners in agriculture, the Employers' Group of Agricultural Organisations in the EC (GEOPA-COPA) and the European Federation of Food, Agriculture and Tourism Trade Unions (EFFAT) signed the agreement on the reduction of workers' exposure to the risk of work-related musculo-skeletal disorders in agriculture.
They intend to propose certain initiatives as well as setting up prevention policies with regard to work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) in the professional agricultural sector (European observatory of agricultural workers’ health and safety, centralisation of national statistical data, coordination of policies for the prevention of MSD, organisation of national information and training programmes / information campaigns, implementation of best practices).

The purpose of this document is to provide recommendations for public health authorities and other stakeholders involved in the management of actual and potential human health issues related to domestic avian influenza outbreaks. In this document the recommendations have been organized to align with certain components of the pandemic plan, specifically: surveillance, public health measures, infection control, antivirals, and vaccine programs. The objective of this document is to provide recommendations aimed at:protecting individuals who are involved in the response to an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza controlling the outbreak in the human population (if applicable) minimizing the risk of viral reassortment (i.e., mixing of genes from human and avian viruses).

Lyme borreliosis (Lyme disease) is not notifiable in the Netherlands, and so retrospective studies to determine the national occurrence of tick bites, erythema migrans and Lyme borreliosis have been carried out. Studies revealed that the incidence of tick bite consultations increased from 191/100 000 people in 1994 to 372/100 000 in 2001, and continued to increase to 446/100 000 in 2005. Lyme borreliosis appears to be an increasingly important healthcare problem in the Netherlands. Workers in high-risk occupations include farming and forestry.
