The publication is a summary of the Workplace Violence Intervention Workshop which has been held in Washington DC, in April 2000 (organized by University of Iowa Injury Prevention Research Center). The workshop brought together participants representing diverse constituencies within industry, organized labor, municipal, state, and federal governments, and academia. The goal of this meeting was to examine issues related to violence in the workplace and to develop recommended research strategies to address this public health problem.

The University of Iowa Injury Prevention Research Center (UI IPRC) addresses this important public health problem. Founded in 1990, the UI IPRC is one of 13 injury "Centers of Excellence" funded by the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The UI IPRC's primary goal is to control and prevent injuries, especially in rural communities, focusing on interdisciplinary research that leads to effective intervention. The Center continues to strive toward this goal through interdisciplinary research, training, and outreach, targeting a variety of populations and injury types.
